RISE Drug Free MKE – PSA Video with David Joplin
Community Advocates, through their RiseDrugFreeMKE initiative, needed a PSA video to air during Marquette Basketball home games at Fiserv Forum. Their goal was clear: grab the attention of basketball fans with a message about using drugs and alcohol in moderation. To achieve this, they partnered with Front Room Studios to create a bold PSA video featuring Marquette player David Joplin.
However, the project presented two main challenges. First, the PSA video needed to be visually engaging enough for a massive arena screen. Second, production had to fit into a narrow time window due to the athlete’s limited availability. Although Community Advocates envisioned Joplin in various locations, moving him between sets wasn’t feasible.
As a solution, Front Room Studios drew inspiration from OK Go’s single-take music videos. Instead of relocating the athlete, we designed a continuous shot where each scene transformed around Joplin. This innovative approach brought the environments to him.
From start to finish, we managed every aspect of the production. This included concept development, choreography, wardrobe design, and prop coordination. Tear-away outfits let Joplin change scenes in real time. Moreover, we used carefully timed set pieces to depict campus life, the locker room, game time, and post-game interviews.
Pre-production and precise choreography were critical. Thanks to this preparation, everything came together smoothly despite tight constraints.
The final PSA video played throughout the Marquette basketball season at Fiserv Forum. It was met with enthusiasm from both fans and stakeholders. Most importantly, the PSA video connected with a hard-to-reach audience and delivered RiseDrugFreeMKE’s message with clarity and energy.
