It was apparent from the moment we even stepped onto the Shanine family’s lawn that this was a family of love and respect. We were greeted by a dapper and kind father of the bride, Tony, who made sure to groom their property to look its very best. There were nieces and nephews playing and running about; the house hummed with excitement and joy. An impressive food spread had everything you could ever want, mimosas were plentiful and children showing off their musical chops on the piano. It was a lively household wedding morning. But that’s perhaps what makes Jessica and Luke’s wedding day so special to remember – their sweet and loving families. As soon as Annette got Jess in her dress, the bedroom door was open, music was blaring, people were ululating, clapping and dancing. The family members that couldn’t make it were there in spirit via FaceTime, it truly was an amazing moment as Jessica got ready to marry her groom.
Their actual wedding was flawless. The ceremony was at the beautiful Old St. Mary Parish and on our way to take some bride and groom portraits, we actually met former Brewer, Robin Young! The two got a picture with him and the whole experience left Luke and his pals starstruck for the remainder of the night. We took a quick stroll through the Historic Third Ward before returning to the Kimpton Journeyman Hotel for their reception. Coming from big families – there were thirty children in attendance! – Luke and Jessica thought ahead. One of their favorite wedding planning moments was, “We had so much fun planning a ‘Kids’ Room’ at the reception to keep them all partying. We had different stations set up for the kids including their very own candy bar, temporary tattoos, wedding day coloring books, ring toss and other games, and the most fun of all – glow sticks! We had so much fun seeing all the kids (and the kids at heart) light up the dance floor all night.”
And light up the dance floor they did, sliding and flossing. Their families also gave great, well thought out speeches from Tony or Emma to Luke’s mom, Kathy and his brother, Cal’s story about the significance of 3s with their family.
We loved being a part and watching a great couple’s day unfold!
