Located in the trendy and busy neighborhood of Historic Walker’s Point, the Seeboth Building is not without a good story of its own. It seems almost pre-destined to be a wedding venue as a former lace factory in the 1880s. It continued its love affair with lace and established the space as a wedding venue as the Rail Hall. The then Gravity Events managed space changed hands to its current owner and wedding industry expert, Gary Ozuna and has only gained popularity since. Conveniently located near other vendors, hotels and the famed 2nd Street nightlife, the Seeboth is a great option for any couple looking for an urban but cozy venue.
The Interview
Meet the Seeboth Event Professional!
GARY OZUNA
owner & events manager
What’s your adult beverage of choice?: Vodka & Champagne
What’s your junk food of choice: Mexican food, because I’m Mexican. My favorite is enchiladas.
If you had an enormous yacht, what would you name it?: Olivia 1, it’s my mother’s name.
What’s your favorite animal?: Penguins. If you’re at my house, you’ll see penguins everywhere.
What music makes up your favorite playlist?: Queen is my all times favorite band.
What’s the best concert you’ve been to?: David Bowie, by far.
What’s the best trip you ever went on and why?: Traveling through the whole country of Turkey was probably the best. 14 days in Turkey – it’s an amazing country.
Cappadocia is a different world. Star Wars was filmed there. They say New York is the place that never sleeps, but it’s Istanbul even more so! The nightlife is crazy!
Tell me about your family & friends – what do you like to do together?: Eating out is our favorite thing. They look to me to find the restaurants, no matter what city. I do it all the time wherever I go. I guess I have a good taste that way.
What type of couples are drawn to the Seeboth?
A modern couple that wants the clean lines of the industrial space. And not too many frills, but still elegant.
What questions do couples forget to ask you that they should know?
I want them to know that we are very flexible here is far as bar options. We change it however they want – same with the food.
We have preferred list, but if couples really want to bring their own caterer off the list, we are walking them through what that vendor has to do.
Favorite trend you are seeing for weddings this year?
People are having donuts instead of a wedding cake. But also, dogs are becoming a big part of the ceremony more often now. We let the couples do it because we have industrial floors here. And plus, I personally love dogs, so that is important to me.
What services are available in-house?
We have full bar service and day of coordinating. Of course, one of the managers is always here for the couple, to guide them through the whole day. We do a lot of customization on a bar. We customize the cocktails, for each couple’s taste.
Catering – in house or bring your own?
We have a list of the preferred caterers. There is 11 of them on the list.
Fabulous features of the Seeboth
We can block off dead end street and have a cocktail reception outside for the guests.
We also have 2 beautiful condo apartments upstairs available for getting ready in the morning. They are also available over the night for bride and groom or for out of town guests to stay.
[Parking also is plentiful, because] we are renting a big parking lot on a kitty corner from the venue. It’s $250. There are 62 spaces.
What is your favorite thing about weddings at the Seeboth?
It’s fun! Because of the types of the couples that are booking us, every wedding is always a blast!
The Beauty
The Seeboth is perfectly placed – down a dead end so it’s not too congested, but it’s within walkable distance to some really awesome photo spots. The cream city brick provides great texture and a Milwaukee iconic element. With its simple interior, it’s really easy to make things your own there and we love to see the creativity that couples can show off. Plus, there’s an apartment right above it so getting ready, the ceremony and reception can all just be in one location and be super easy.
