Milwaukee Art Museum Wedding: Stephanie & Joe!

It’s not unusual for us to get a call for a Milwaukee Art Museum wedding. After years of working with their wonderful team, we are thankful it happens quite often. It is, however, rare that we get that call a month before the wedding.  Adding to the unique nature of Stephanie and Joe’s plan was their total guest list of 6 people (including themselves). Hearing just these details certainly made our ears perk up.

We never get tired of a posh 200+ person affair with a swinging band and a gelato station. But we also cherish the opportunity when a couple tells us that they are basically eloping and didn’t even want a photographer until they saw what we do. Stephanie and Joe didn’t want “wedding photography”, they wanted art and they gave Neil all the freedom in the world to make it with them and for them. Even the plan was up in the air almost to the end, though a Milwaukee Art Museum wedding was on the table from the first conversation we had. In the end, it turned into an Iron Horse afternoon with a Milwaukee Art Museum early evening and culminating in a spirited round of ping pong at Puddler’s Hall.

As we hope all our couples would, Stephanie and Joe really made everything about this day their own.  Stephanie eschewed a traditional wedding dress, opting for a semi-fitted ivory skirt from BHLDN and Helmut Lang sweater.  Their vintage rings already have a story all their own, hers a 1930 art deco and his a wedding band from 1903.  But they are already adding their own legacy to these baubles.  Stephanie says, “I love how much he loves our rings. He stares at my hand constantly.”

When we asked about her favorite part of the day, Stephanie said, “The golden hour. I will always remember that light.” As will we, this light was just perfect!

When we asked Joe about his favorite part of the day, this is what he had to say:  “When we danced (pictured above), I liked the time by ourselves. Beating her in ping pong was fun.”  You have to love a couple with a healthy competitive spirit!
