The American Club and Whistling Straights, both brought to you by Destination Kohler, offer couples two very different but equally wonderful options in the Kohler area. The American Club, nestled in the charming Village of Kohler and Whistling Straits, on the shore of Lake Michigan, offers couples elegant indoor and outdoor settings designed for unforgettable wedding experiences.
The Team
We have always had amazing experiences with weddings through Destination Kohler. Their commitment to quality and service is unparalleled in the state. We always wondered how their team pulled it off. We were excited to have the chance to sit down with Elise Ariens to hear more about how their team approaches weddings for their couples.
Elise Ariens:
Favorite Adult Beverage: White Claw – raspberry or grapefruit; vodka lemonade.
Favorite Junk Food: Sour Cream and Cheddar Ruffles or Peanut Butter M&M’s.
Favorite Animal: Dogs (puppies!)
Professional History: I was a corporate event manager in Chicago. My family is in Green Bay and I wanted to get closer to home.
Favorite historical fact about American Club: It was originally built for immigrants working for Kohler. They wanted to give workers a great place to stay if they were coming all the way up to Kohler to work. They built it complete with a bowling alley and laundry!
Favorite dish on wedding menu: Wild Salmon Fillet with wild rice and asparagus. Also, amazing chocolate ornament surrounding carrot cake and sorbet.

What is your favorite thing about weddings at the American Club?
I’ve never seen a wedding there that’s the same. We can help couples transform the space to their dreams through drapery, lighting, chairs, and linens. Our Event Manager works with couples to detail the look and feel of the decor.
What do couples forget about?
It’s amazing how often [couples] put off reserving a room block right away to make sure they can stay on property the night of their wedding. I’m sure there are a lot of factors that go into those decisions, but even reserving a small block right away is a really good idea.
What do you wish couples knew before picking a venue?
Be aware of how venue budget fits into the overall budget before scheduling visits. Planning a wedding takes so much time and work, we always want to make sure there is a possibility it can work out with a couple prior to scheduling a visit.

These two venues obviously offer pretty different settings for weddings. As such, they each come with a pretty different range of options for backgrounds for a couple. What they have in common is the most important element: they both offer a ton of conveniently located variety. No matter which venue you reserve, you have everything you need at your fingertips to make beautiful imagery from a wedding day.

The American Club and Whistling Straights are both located in Kohler, WI which is about 60 miles north of Milwaukee. They are part of the Destination Kohler group.
At American Club, the Great Bay Ballroom can hold up to 100 people
At American Club, the Grand Hall of Great Lakes can hold 175-450 people
At Whistling Straights the Irish Barn can hold up to 120 people.
