Venue Spotlight: The Hyatt Regency!
The Hyatt Regency has an old but memorable start. Before it was the Hyatt, it was the Hotel Gilpatrick, a short lived hotel on the same plot of land at the corner of Old World 3rd and Wells. In 1912, Teddy Roosevelt was staying at the hotel prior to making a speech at the Milwaukee Theater. There was an attempted assassination by a deranged bartender but was saved from the bullet by the speech in his pocket. The hotel became The Hyatt in the early 80s and featured the rotating restaurant, Polaris, at the top of the hotel. In 2015, the hotel was renovated and Polaris became Vue. The changes keep rolling though, new Miamian ownership has been announced and renovations soon to follow!

Why are couples drawn to your space? What style/type of weddings or couples are the best fit?
The view from Vue is a huge draw. The Regency Ballroom is a perfect for larger, cultural weddings. Vue East is perfect for an intimate wedding, so we can accommodate any size wedding.
What is your favorite thing about weddings at your space?
Hands down, it’s the relationship [we have with our couples]. Really making sure their vision day-of comes together and they can relax and have a good time.
What questions do couples forget to ask?
Clarifying how far our wedding management goes versus actually hiring a coordinator. Couples sometimes don’t think to ask if they should hire a day-of coordinator. We sell ourselves as a one-stop shop, but there is a line. If you want someone to come to your hotel room to tell you it’s time to go to the ceremony, that’s a time when a couple would want to hire a coordinator.
What questions do couples forget to ask?
It’s great to know a general guest count. Having that formulated can really guide you as to what rooms will work and what budget will work for you. Also, what do you want for your day? It’s about you and not everyone else.
Fabulous features of the Hyatt Regency

What services are available in-house?
Catering, bar service, floor-length linens, wedding planning management.
What is a favorite wedding trend you’re seeing?
Velvet! It’s so lush and the texture is great! The foodie movement is great also! We love how couples are more curious about how food is sourced and they are getting really creative with their menus.
