Milwaukee Engagement Photographer: Louisa & Andrew

Louisa and Andrew’s engagement session planning was as simple as this – meet us in front of our building. Beyond the experience getting to know their wedding photographer better, they were mostly interested in a Milwaukee engagement photographer using their artistic discretion to pick and choose amongst the plethora of options surrounding their condo building.  In the southern part of the 3rd Ward, there’s everything to choose from: old brick buildings, river views, and bridges.  If you’re lucky, there’s even a friend’s roof available on short notice!

Much of the story of Louisa and Andrew’s engagement session is told through the lighting. We tinkered with the shoot time, trying to hit that perfect window of the tail end of the golden light through the beginning of the evening dusk that brings out the glowing city. At this time of year, between the weather and the clouds and the setting sun finding its way between buildings, it’s always a bit hard to know what you will get. Sometimes we get into a game we call “chasing the light”. That game led us to the roof of a friend’s condo building to catch the final rays of sunlight.

Once that moment passes, it’s time to slow down to let the sky richen up and the city lights to really glow. That gave us plenty of time to stroll around and chat, which is the side benefit of the engagement session: getting to know each other!

Eventually, our strolling led us back to our starting point: Louisa and Andrew’s building. Right in front of their building is a great view of the river and downtown.

For a couple that wasn’t sure what to do in front of a camera, they figured it out pretty quickly and we all had a great time making some really beautiful images!
